How many millionaires do you know who have become wealthy by investing in savings accounts? I rest my case.– Robert G. Allen
Many of us like to see our wealth grow into billions in a short span of time. But what’s often forgotten is that wealth creation is a journey and patience is the key! Do not get restless and fall prey to quick-rich schemes –– you could be conned.
Instead, if you focus on your asset allocation and you've invested in the right asset classes and the right investment avenues, you will witness your money growth. Furthermore, you’ll be able to accomplish many of the envisioned financial goals.
Remember, investing is a marathon, not a sprint, which means it is serious business and hence, prudent investment planning is essential. Do not get carried away by what your affluent friend, relative, or next neighbour says or does with their investment portfolio; because each one’s risk profile, investment objective, investment time horizon, and financial goals are different.
Barry Ritholtz, an American author, newspaper columnist, and equity analyst has aptly said, “When it comes to investing, there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all portfolio.”
Do note that investing is a personal exercise. It is important that you recognise your risk appetite, investment objective, your financial goals, and the time horizon for your goals.
And please do not misconstrue your savings with investments. Merely putting aside some money under the mattress, vault, or your savings bank account after meeting your expenses and liabilities may not lead money to work for you. Ultimately, you want to counter inflation (which erodes the purchasing power of your hard-earned money), and therefore making productive investments is necessary.
So, which is potentially a productive investment avenue that can counter inflation? It is equity-oriented mutual funds.
