 STOCK LEVEL ANALYSIS

On a weighted basis, the fund owns ~200 stocks and Top 10 stocks account for ~35%.

For 1-year period ending July 2022, the fund has underperformed the Benchmark S&P BSE 200 TRI by 650 basis points. 97 basis points of that underperformance was a result of the underlying fund’s lower allocation to Reliance Industries at 3.85% compared to benchmark weight of 8.38%. In addition, the underlying fund’s 0% exposure to Adani Group stocks compared to benchmark weight of 2.92% contributed 243 basis points to the underperformance.

 SECTOR LEVEL ANALYSIS

On a portfolio look through, the fund’s lower allocation in underlying funds to Energy and Utilities sectors and higher contribution to Healthcare and Consumer Discretionary sectors negatively contributed to performance. On the other hand, funds higher allocation to Industrials positively contributed to performance in the year.

 FUND LEVEL ANALYSIS

The fund underperformed its benchmark S&P BSE 200 TRI’s performance by 6.50% for 1 year period ending July 2022. All of the nine funds in the portfolio underperformed the benchmark S&P BSE 200 TRI. Sundaram Large & Midcap Fund was the best performer with a return of 6.18% whereas UTI Flexi cap Fund was the least performer with a return of -1.75%.

 MARKET CAP ANALYSIS

The fund’s higher exposure to mid and small cap stocks compared to benchmark S&P BSE 200 TRI also contributed to the underperformance as mid and small caps lagged their larger peers in the year. Funds 8.7% cash holdings negatively contributed to the performance in the rising market environment.

Despite the near-term underperformance, the fund continues to outperform the benchmark S&P BSE 200 TRI Index on a since inception basis. Given that the forward earnings profile of the portfolio is robust, and all underlying funds remain good long-term performers, the Fund has potential to perform well over the long term and will continue to monitor the performance of the current fund that it owns and make appropriate changes when deemed necessary.
